Reference pages for international statistical classifications that relate directly to Japanese classification systems.

Classifications covered

ISIC, NAICS, NACE, ISCO, CPC — all with official source links and relationship notes.

ISIC — International Standard Industrial Classification Rev.4

United Nations Statistics Division · 2008

Global reference classification for productive activities. Adopted by the UN Statistical Commission. JSIC aligns with ISIC at the Section and Division levels for international comparability.

JSIC relation: Aligned — JSIC Sections A–T correspond to ISIC Sections A–U. Divisions (2-digit) are mostly harmonised. Japan-specific subdivisions exist for national precision.

NAICS — North American Industry Classification System 2022

US OMB / Statistics Canada / INEGI (Mexico) · 2022

Industry classification used by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Six-digit codes covering 20 sectors with production-oriented grouping.

JSIC relation: Related — JSIC and NAICS are independently developed. The JSIC-to-NAICS mapping published by Soumu enables approximate conversion at the industry level.

NACE — Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community Rev.2.1

Eurostat · 2023

EU standard industry classification. Four-level hierarchy identical in structure to ISIC at the top two levels, with EU-specific detail.

JSIC relation: Related — JSIC is not directly aligned with NACE, but both derive their top-level structure from ISIC. JSIC-to-NACE mapping is published for EU–Japan statistical exchange.

ISCO — International Standard Classification of Occupations ISCO-08

International Labour Organization · 2008

Global framework for organising jobs into clearly defined sets of occupations. Four-level hierarchy with 10 major groups.

JSIC relation: Related — JSOC (Japan Standard Occupational Classification) is modelled on ISCO-08. JSOC maintains 12 categories vs ISCO's 10, reflecting Japanese labour market structure.

CPC — Central Product Classification 2.1

United Nations Statistics Division · 2015

Comprehensive goods-and-services product classification. Five-level hierarchy covering transportable goods, non-transportable goods, and services.

JSIC relation: Related — 生産物分類 (Japan Product Classification 2024) is the Japanese counterpart. Both serve as product detail layers linking to industry classifications.
